Toutbon
Toutbon is the supermarket that does good. It’s a large neighborhood store, independent and (very) sustainable, 100% organic and bulk, where you can do all your daily shopping (truly all of it!), while gradually changing your habits. It’s also a major composting hub for the entire neighborhood.
Why we love them: Fruits and vegetables are in full season and come from a cooperative of 80 farms in Île-de-France, supplemented by other local producers. The store is certified annually by Ecocert and prioritizes more demanding labels like Bio Cohérence, Demeter, and Nature & Progrès. On the seafood side, French family businesses committed to sustainable fishing (Phare d’Eckmühl, Food4Good, Safa, etc.) are featured and Toutbon is also a Poiscaille relay point. For meat, everything is French, AB certified, and direct from small farmers. It’s also one of the largest certified organic bulk sections in Paris. Nearly 600 food and non-food references, more than half the products are sold without packaging (a huge challenge for a supermarket)! There’s even a green waste collection station in front of the store for their own waste but also their customers and neighborhood residents waste: 1.5 tons of green waste, transformed into compost via Veni Verdi, a neighborhood association, and also Les Alchimistes. Finally, products nearing their end date are sold at low prices (-20% to -30% in store, or -50% as a basket on the Phénix app). Also a partner in free solidarity redistribution via the Hop Hop Food app (free product baskets for people in precarious situations, students, or others). Or via neighborhood associations for solidarity redistribution (solidarity canteen of the Flêche d’Or collective and Moissons Solidaires who distribute at the end of the Place de la Réunion market).
Their recommendation: One of their 600 bulk references!
