La Butinerie

La Butinerie is a community hub just steps from the Canal de l’Ourcq, co-created with local residents. Dedicated to conscious eating and conviviality, La Butinerie hosts participatory canteens where people cook and share seasonal meals together on a pay-what-you-can basis. You can also drop by to relax, chat, or work in the self-managed café, or browse books from the shared library. La Butinerie also offers gardening workshops, local fruit and vegetable basket distributions, concerts, exhibitions, and much more.

Why we love them: La Butinerie is committed to sustainability at every level. They use unsold seasonal produce from the neighboring Biocoop, partner with the “Marché sur l’eau” association, and offer Too Good To Go baskets for collection. Their 99% vegetarian cuisine operates on a pay-what-you-can model to ensure accessibility for all. The space itself is built with durable, recycled, or reclaimed materials—upcycling is the guiding principle. Cleaning products are eco-responsible, and laundry detergent is homemade near the on-site composters. Every Wednesday, the ÉcoBul association hosts workshops on ecological transition and manages La Butinerie’s garden and vegetable plots.

Their recommendation: The healthy, seasonal lunches at the participatory canteen.
